What is DEdicated Technology and Teaching?

Well, here it is, the inaugural post to this blog. It's a bit different than the bigger inauguration we recently experienced in this country, but like that one, this one is all about change. DEdicated Technology and Teaching is about the future and making new opportunities for students. The DE in DEdicated would be Distance Education and Online Learning, which, as many of you may know, is on the rise and is proving useful in opening up educational opportunites and providing choices for all kinds of students in all kinds of circumstances. I currently teach a blended course in a university setting, and I can see the benefits of online learning which, for my students, mainly means that they only have to wake up and make it into the lab one morning per week instead of three. Seriously, what I'm talking about here are opportunities for students who might not otherwise have access to certain content area courses due to their location or time, students with disabilities and at-risk students who need alternatives to regular classroom settings, and students who might not otherwise be able to attend school. I'm talking about tools and technology for teaching and learning that enriches distance and online learning environments. Finally, this blog is a record of my research and my own teaching and learning with technology in the very different areas I'm dedicated to.
